In the beginning was Met Report, the half-hour weekly newscast by students at Metropolitan State College of Denver for students on the Auraria Campus. Met Report won its first Student Achievement award at the Heartland Chapter Emmys gala in 2007.
In 2012, El Noticero Metro came into being as a Spanish translation and condensed version of Met Report; however, as the population of Hispanic students grew at Metro State, so did the demand for news targeted at those students. Noticiero TVMET launched about the same time as Metro State changed its name to Metropolitan State University of Denver. Met Report won its second and third Student Achievement awards in 2014 and 2016, and Noticiero TVMET won its first in 2015.
Career preparation for broadcast news positions draws most students to Met Report and Noticiero TVMET, but not all. MSU Denver students are finding demand for their creative efforts in other areas, from satire to music videos. Since not every program falls under the category of English newscast, we created the umbrella Met Media TV.
