It wasn’t the first time I had heard R.E.M., but the video for “Losing My Religion” was what initially drew me to the band. The video was visually stunning —brilliantly directed by film director Tarsem Singh — and after watching it, I couldn’t really see the band in any other light. I instantly had a mad crush on […]
Ladytron is back in Denver this Saturday and you better be there. Earlier this year the electronica band from Liverpool managed to unload three albums, including a “best of” compilation, an accompanying remix album and a new full-length called Gravity the Seducer. This full-length, which features their signature dreamy synth sounds mixed with the heavier […]
For more than a decade, Paulie Lipman has been writing and performing poetry. All along, he’s wanted one thing: to get a reaction out of people. “Isn’t that what art is?” Asked the 35-year-old poet. “Getting an emotional response?”
Of course, there’s plenty of emotion in slam poetry, which is known for its high energy and audience feedback. The bigger the reaction, the better you are. “I had gone to open mic nights before, but getting quiet applause after you read a poem isn’t enough,” Lipman said. “I wanted something more. Then I found out about slam.”
March 20, She Wants Revenge visited the Bluebird Theater on Colfax Ave. and brought a little known L.A. band with them: The Californian. And while bandmembers John Graney, Jon Price, Jake Gideon, Mike Hopkins and Darren Robinson all have experience in other groups, they’ve been working on this dark, but poppy, surf rock project since […]
In My Sleep follows the story of Marcus (Philip Winchester), a man who struggles with Parasomnia, a rare sleep disorder where you do things in your sleep and don’t remember it when you wake up.
Belle and Sebastian are normally known for consistency, not surprises. However, on their 10th studio album, Write About Love, they deliver both.
Battling with your sexuality can be difficult for anyone. Going through that battle while being an A-lister (full-member) in a Neo-Nazi group can be a little harder.
What do you get when you put together Snow Patrol, R.E.M. and Belle and Sebastian? Sheer genius. Gary Lightbody, the voice of Snow Patrol, pulled some strings to create the indie supergroup of the year. He tapped one of his heroes, guitarist Peter Buck of R.E.M., Belle and Sebastian drummer Richard Colburn and tied it up with Young Fresh Fellows member Scott McCaughey to get the right “country” sound he was looking for. Having always aspired to create a country album, he wanted to get the right mix, though it may be considered more folk than country.
Michael Shannon has the most frighteningly psychotic face in cinema today. After watching the Werner Herzog directed crime film “My son, my son, what have ye done?” it is pretty clear. The film is loosely based on the true story of a man who basically lost all of his senses and then slayed his mother with a saber. David Lynch produces this noirish mystery.
